My foray into non-metal playing....

Sign in to disble this ad
So I've been playing in metal bands (or at least heavy bands) since I was 14 (being 23 now...it's been awhile)

Some of you may know my other band Bongripper...and if you like that one...well this one sounds absolutely nothing like them.

The band is called Castevet...we play indie-ish rock...I don't know. I hate describing stuff. A lot of clean guitars, at times very intricate guitar work (maybe not on these specific tracks) and shout-y vocals.

But I'd still be stoked if you took time to take a listen and let me know what you think.

Castevet

So yeah, we recorded a full length late this summer...there are a couple of tracks up on our site now...we are real proud of how everything is turning out.

Just want to know what you guys think of them. Any comments concerns or adds on myspace are appreciated.

(the bass tone came out a little muddy to me, I recorded using an:
81' G&L L-1000
76' Rickenbacker 4001
Mesa 400+
1x15 Emperor cab
Hughes & Kettner Tube Factor
EHX Deluxe Memory Man)

Love everything but the vocals. I could see a guy like the Head Automatica frontman singing for your band. it'd be a nice fit.

Thanks for the critique but we are more akin to Small Brown Bike/Braid kind of bands over the higher pitched pop vocals (trust us we experimented with a whole bunch of different vocals before doing them how we did them). But the gruff shout-y stuff is more what we were going for.

Give it another listen the vocals grow on you really fast. Still rough but a lot of melody in them.

(also just got some new mixes for some more of the album...a lot happier with the overall bass sound)

I'm quite enjoying this. Sort of reminds me of when Dredg were still a good band. I think the vocals fit quite well. Good job!

It's not bad, I'd rather listen to Bongripper, though.

I'm bumping this up because we put up some new songs and much better quality versions of the songs that were up there before.

Plus you can download our "I know what a Lion is" demo for free through the blog on the myspace.

Great stuff, and I LOVE the vocals. Reminds me of all the great 90's stuff I used to listen to constantly. The bass tone is fitting, no complaints.
