I'm surprised nobody's commented yet. I really like how Entwistle puts variations on the solo each time he plays it.

LIVE AT LEEDS was one one of the first LPs I ever bought, when I was 12-the original with all the contracts and stuff in it. I used to go to sleep with this in my headphones every night for probably 2 or 3 years! Might not be the best bass ever, but IMHO definitely the coolest. Amazing tone and vision of what the bass guitar could be.

yeah i agree..and no need to jump all over the stage he let the bass do the talking..
lots of people kind of miss the point with john..all the top players have named him as an Influence,he made bass cool and people took notice..

That guy's got a serous treasure trove there, that Entwistle stuff is gold! I love the unmistakeable Thunderbird 'skronk' on Sea and the Sand, and Going Mobile.

I love how, in isolation, a lot of the parts seem a touch sloppy in places, and I can't help but think a modern player would be made to repeat the takes again and again and drop in edits her and there. And yet Entwistle's lines are just so full of soul and spirit, just pure Rock energy. I'm so happy to have heard these tracks.

Listen to the isolated track. Clearly a Tbird.
For comparison, have a listen to the Amazing Journey track, which is a Precision bass.

Thanks for posting this. John's my main guy. He's the reason I picked up a bass in the first place.

huge sound live. monster rig, great style, cant say i have ever seen somone that playes in the same style..some great bass stuff over the years from the weird "dancemaster" track with a solo that showcases his style perfectly..
and then this..with simon philips on drums.for me john played so different depending on the drummer ..when the drums were good he played fantastic

This is the greatest birthday present ever! I've listened to "Leeds" for years just enthralled by his bass tone and ferocity, wanting to hear an isolated track. Amazing.

I too covet John's style. I learned it over a long period. "Tommy" was new when I picked up the bass. Then I heard the Live at Leeds stuff and freaked. The bass on My Generation is different every recording ever since and incredible every time. Behind Blue Eyes was my big teacher. The amazing Mr. Entwhistle, and Keith Moon. Roger Daltry and Pete Townshend were very skilled but they were also very lucky to meet up with Keith and John. I am a huge fan of all of them.
