My HS Jazz band

Hey, if you don't mind, could you go give a listen to these recordings of my High School jazz band? This is a (crappy) recording from our district festival. I'm playing bass on all three pieces. The mics weren't very good at picking up the bass freqs, but you know how that can go. Just tell me what you think .

Overall, it sounded really good. Not bad for a HS Jazz band! Sounds more like a college jazz band. Yeah, could barely hear the bass! I dig it though! Good job!

By the way, you've got some nice gear for a high school student! I had to gig a used Univox bass and an old Traynor 50w head and 2x15 cab when I was in high school!

Haha, thank you. I can only imagine the mud that could come from that setup. I bet you were very careful when EQing it.

I don't use the big rig for jazz or show band... I use a hartke 12 kickback in jazz band and a different hartke combo for show band (15 inch drier 2.5 inch horn, 12 band graphic eq... nice). I find them to be more than adequate, as I don't have to turn up above 1/4 or 1/3 on the kickback 12 to overpower the band, hah. The shape function allows a lot of versatility in sound. I can make my stingray go from a stingray to an upright sound with the turn of a dial.

I'll have better recordings from state festival. Last year they had a professional recording rig (each mic cost over 5 grand, haha).

that stuff is actually really good! Unfortunately like the others I can't hear much bass line .. but the opening to the 3rd song did sound good.

I played in a Jazz Band in high school (bass trombone). Did a lot of stuff like what you guys did.

but you guys really were on tempo .. key .. everything .. very good for high school players ..

sounds like the music program at SHS really kicks!

Thanks everybody. We are definitely going to try to get a studio quality recording by the end of this year. This has been our best year by far. Best rhythm section and horn combo ever.

I'd say for jazz we have the best program in the county and probably top 5 or 10 in the district. There are some monster performing arts schools here in Central Florida.
