my moody spacey song

Sign in to disble this ad
here's a new song i just got thru recording:
http://homepage.mac.com/chuckelizond...way-cloak1.mp3

let me know what you think. it's got a sort of spacey type vibe with some sound samples from the movie '2001 a space odyessy.' guitar was run thru a reverse delay on the guitar pod xt. the bass is a fender p '62 reissue going thru a sansamp and a keeley compressor. this is my first time using a compressor so not sure i have the hang of it. and dare i speak heresey on a bass web forum but i think i may have mixed the bass too loud if anyone cares to comment it would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Pretty sweet. There are some spots where the bass and guitar create a bit of dissonance off each other, which is a little iffy.

I really like the guitar tone, the bass tone could either be mellowed out a bit or turned down a bit like you said, or a combination. But I think if the tone was a bit more warm, it would fit the vibe better. The drums work well. The samples come in a bit drastic in the song. But I love the "keys" whatever that synthy sample is, it's cool and adds a lot. Or maybe it's just more guitar... guitar's sound like keys sometimes.

thanks a bunch for your input matt! i'm kind of a fan of the dissonance but i know it's not for everyone. i probably will tame the bass a bit.

it was hard getting the sound samples at the same level. but in the end i figured, hey, this is just low-fi stuff for me.

the keyboard used is a microkorg. man, i can't say enough about that thing. it looks like a toy but you get tons of great sounds and a vocoder to boot!

thanks again for your input. i appreciate it. i've got more sonic experiments at http://homepage.mac.com/chuckelizondo

Man, I wondered if that was the MicroKorg. My next major purchase, I'm torn between a synth and a sitar...

Jesus, I swear I didn't use to be such a hippie.

superbassman2000, thanks a lot man!

sitar, wow. matt, embrace you inner hippie....but get the mircrokorg. the only thing about the microkorg is that it has smaller keys, they aren't full size. it's best to sort of plink away on it as opposed to playing it like a full size synth. it's definitely worth having.

BUT SITARS MAN!! SITARS!!

Half hour ragas sound like a good idea to me!

But so does spacey synth stuff.

We'll see what I think when I can afford it (it will probably be a while).
