Hey everyone. So here are some tracks. They are dub tracks. Pre-mastering, but are essentially done. This will the first release with my current project 'Down and Dirty'. It's called 'Hi Life in Lo Fi'.
Any feedback is welcome. The second song (all that beautiful money) is actually a song in three parts as a tribute to the movie The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Some of the other songs you might have heard on here before, including the remix of The Crystal Method song. I'd be glad to answer any questions regarding setting and fx that I used. Hope you dig them. Down and Dirty | hi life in lo fi

I really enjoyed it. It was very original, and reminded me of some Bill Laswell (because of the Dub) and some older Marley Reggae stuff. It was great.
I liked the fact you through in some Eastwood references also.

This is no different. Killer tunes. Anyway to download/purchase it? |

Thanks for the compliments. Yeah I'm a huge Bill Laswell fan. The Eastwood stuff is actual samples from the movie. We thought we'd do a little nod toward the long marriage between the Italian Westerns and dub with a tribute to arguably the best movie ever made. The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.
We dropped the dub because we like playing other stuff too.
It's will be for sale after mastering. We're saving up for mastering and should have the money together by the end of the month.

How'd you pull the sub'd sound on King Midas? At least, it sounds like its an octave down. |

It was recorded through my Ampeg SVP-BSP which has a clean and a dirty channel. The clean channel is the dominant track. The dirty channel is running my fx-loop. I'm running a Boss OC-2 -> Boss EQ pedal -> MoogerFooger LPF101. I only really pulled it up in the mix enough for just a presence. It fattened the sound nicely. Then I ran it through hard compressor in Ableton and blended the two tracks. |

Edit: Got it to work in Iron though. I'll try to do a thorough listen a bit later tonight, but it sounds like a fun project at first blush.

If I have any criticism it would be that the mix is just a wee bit harsh on a couple of tracks. Then again, it works really well with some of the more rock'ish elements and I like how you expand from the basic dub setting.
When you get it mastered I'd really be interested.
Any chance of vinyl?

Any chance of vinyl? | Thanks. I do believe something happened on a few tracks when they were compressed down to MP3. I admit there are a few minor mixing tweaks that I'd like to address. I think vinyl would be sweet. My DJ wants to do it, but I have no clue how to get it done. |

I can tell you pulled the highs but 'Wicks just don't seem to do the dub tone,...too growly. I dig the track (and started following ). Maybe slap some flats on the boob bass, go through you rack rig and mic a cab (1x18)?
Try I is dope!!!! I love lo-fi-->hi-fi drops!!!
Rum's got closer to the dub bass sound I like,...deep and fat.
That's as far as I've gotten,...listening with cans. |

That's as far as I've gotten,...listening with cans. | Thanks dude. I feel like the boob bass needs some different pups than the stock SX pups. Recording wise the $$ sounds much better. I was playing with dull strings, but perhaps some flats on my wick might be fun.
Rum's actually got a deeper kick drum than King Midas. I think this is what lends itself to the sound too. Although the bass is just my clean $$ through the clean channel of my BSP. No effects or dirt on it.
Stoked you like Try-I. I thought the opening vocals turned out nice. Kind of have a cool haunt to it. Took those backing vocal samples from an Al Capone song called 'Fever Blister'. That's Al Capone toasting. The original loop that provides the drums and the root bassline are from a Sly and Robbie song called 'Poor Boy.' |

Everything else is kind of built into the effects I used on Ableton. Although the panning is set in the mix per instrument on try-I.
But thanks for you feedback. I appreciate it. |
