My Rickenbacker/Tech21 VT Bass pedal experiment

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been using this VT Bass pedal for live applications, and finally got around to trying it in the studio. Wow! I love it! I like it better than the IK Multimedia SVX plugin that was originally on this track. Can't wait to try it on other stuff.

It's a Ric 4003 reamped through a Little Labs Red Eye. The VT Bass pedal is basically set to the "SVT" setting, except the Character knob is at noon.

The track is a rough mix/arrangement, not finished, blah blah blah... There's not even an ending on it yet.

Wild and Blue rough mix

Thanks for listening!

That's sweet. Great sound.

If you don't mind my saying so, for some reason, I thought of "Rush" when hearing that. Nothing in particular, but the vibe made me think mid to late 80's Rush.

Well done.

Brian

Thumbs up

That sounds damn good!
Can I get nosy about your playing? Using a pick? New strings? What brand/gauge? I've got a Ric as well and your tone and chops are BOSS.

Thanks! I was a major Rush fan back in the day, actually still am. High praise, indeed.

My first Jetglo 4001 was definitely Geddy inspired.

It's funny, I always listened Geddy and Neil Pert, but my limited guitar skills are pretty much a direct attempt at Alex Lifeson. All my music is just an excuse to play bass, though

Thanks! I use a pick, always have. Luckily, playing a Ric with a pick has come back in style! I use Thomastik-Infeld Power Bass Roundwound Strings. They are an oddball gauge, starting with a 107 (I think). Thanks for the kind words, the tone is a nice surprise from the VT Bass pedal. I'm never happy with my tone, but this pedal makes it a lot easier!

Nice! Be even nicer with some hair on it, to kind of contrast with how clean sounding the other instruments are. This will sound great with vocals! Definitely hearing the mid to late 80s RUSH there! Good stuff!

I love it, and I linked it to a huge 80s Rush fan. He liked it so much, he wants me to inquire about an album.

Thanks again! No album, I've been writing bed music for video lately. Pretty boring stuff, mostly corporate projects. Some I get to write original music, others I'm asked to "be inspired by" another piece of music. Hey... I have no pride And I'll deny everything under oath.

Once I'm done with this particular piece, it will end up in a folder waiting for a project. I'll probably clean it up, especially the guitars. I'll leave the bass tone, or as Lucas suggests make it even dirtier.

That is what a bass should sound like. I'd like to hear just the drums and bass mix on that.

and not that you need any input *at all* from someone like me, but I say you don't need any vocals! So there!

Nice, man! I'm digging the playing and the tone, thanks for sharing. I have the VT pedal (which is great), but this is giving me Ric GAS!

I will definitely be giving those strings a try. Been thinking about a VT pedal for a while too. I think you convinced me!

Here's a drums and bass only version for Ric5 and anybody else who might be interested. It's only a verse and chorus since it's basically the same thing over and over.

Thanks again for listening!

Bass and Drums
