I'd like Dream Theater a lot, if only they just played instrumentals.

Oh well.

I wish I could play like that....

Anyhow, sweet tone from the Bongo, although I wouldn't say it is better thann his tone with the Yamaha. I really like the hollow sound he gets with the Yamaha, the Bongo is a little bit too full sounding.

His Yamaha was much more cleaner and hi fi-ish... his bongo is more bright and hot.

I have his Yamaha sig model and I wont hear a bad word said about it as it cost me alot of money. Seriously though, its a good bass for the money, very fast and a nice clean tone though the higher strings do get a bit trebly so sometimes I have to play in a different position. Bongos are nice though for hard rocking and it fits a harder balls to the walls sound

Well, that was utterly horrible. I didn't think it could get worse, then the vocals came in! Oh dear! I'm glad he stopped using those Yamaha basses, he just had no fidelity whatsoever when he was using them!

Mind you, getting a better bass is nothing if they're content to write songs like that!

Geez, you guys actually heard 'bass'?? I saw his fingers moving and heard the few double stop pops he pulled off! I so wish the bass was more prominent in the genre!

See Liquid Tension Experiment - you get a few DT members in there and a similar sound.

I'd like 'em a hell of a lot more if they had NO vocalist! With the talent in that band, I'd much rather see/hear their instrumentation without having to deal with vocals. I bet they'd be amazing in the "jammier" context (not noodly, mind you, just extended improvisation).

Just my opinion.

Edit: Jumbotron beat me to it.

If only they had got John to play the bass on those records! (and given him a decent bass to do it with). That said, they have some great songs, Universal Mind being my favourite and one of the best things I've ever heard from Petrucci.
