A masterpiece of brazilian black music from late 70's, Maria Fumaca become a national hit and one of the greatest moments of bassist Jamil Joanes, the master of the "samba-funk" style. |
Please tell me more about samba-funk.
I recently stumbled upon Curumin and I just can't get enough.
I'd offer his first album as pure genius:
Curumin - Achados e Perdidos - samba/funk Brilliant! You can hear the heavy Stevie Wonder influence (not to mention the Stevie cover)
CeU - CeU - New Brazilian music (sort of samba/jazz/reggae) superb and sexy...
+1 King Crimson - Red - progressive rock from the '70's. Saw them live on this tour - WOW
Frank Zappa - Roxy and Elsewhere - Live rock from the master
Tom Waits - Nighthawks at the Diner - Jazz/Blues - Another live classic
Amy Winehouse - Frank - Jazz - Amy's sound and melodies KILL me (shame it's killing her too...)
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Stadium Arcadium - Rock Very tough to pick one of their albums to rave about but I think this is the one for me. Frusciante at his best, IMO.
Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway - Rock Brilliant theater piece and equally impressive rythmically and melodically.
(edit - after rereading the title of the thread only Curumin and CeU qualify for unknown I think, at least in the States right now)
