Funk is alive and well!! This is my boy Zack (a killer drummer) who's up front singing lead vocals on this project. I may be starting a project with him. http://cdbaby.com/allmp3/nappyhead.m...28broadband%29 http://cdbaby.com/cd/nappyhead

Some tight stuff, I don't really care for the vocals... I'll be honest. They aren't bad really, but I really dislike funk lyrics that are really just the same "It's gonna be a funky party funk funk" type stuff. That's more my problem though, most funk is like that. I really think it's what prevents funk from being popular, I think if they sang about something meaningful, there would be more of a market for it.
But, for the most part, that's what funk is about, saying the word "funk" as many times as possible in your song.

The thing is, not to derail this thread, "nappy head" didn't use to be racist (that I know of), it describes a texture of hair. But then again, the world has gone insane with "that's racist/that's not racist" it's maddening.

Recorded a few years back and he's an older cat (me & Cheese's age group) but he's a really cool dude and a killer drummer! I was shocked when he showed me the video of this recording! Huge funk band reminiscent of the 'old days' of the 8-10+ piece bands! He wrote all the material on bass! I played 2 Top40 gigs with him. |

I just felt compelled to say that due to all the racial fear in some of the comments above. I don't get it
One of the things I love about 70s funk is that a lot of those songs did have very meaningful lyrics. Yeah, there were the "funk funk funk party party" lyrics, but there were A LOT of positive "lets overcome" kind of lyrics too. Thats the main difference I see in modern R&B and rap music vs. those positive lyrics of the 70s. I'd love to see those positive lyrics make a comeback. |

good grooves and good tunes.
the bass sound is great, round & warm.
IMHO the band doesn't stand out from any other good funk bands...but that's from only listening to couple of seconds from each track. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
