Need feedback on a new solo track

I have been doing solo looping for a while but have only got around to recording just recently.

I'm not quite sure if I am happy with my latest song though, the timing in the intro and outro seems kind of iffy to me.

Its "A Fall from Arms" and should start playing once you open the page.

Unlike most of my other songs, the loops were not recorded in real time, but faded in throughout the song. I quite like the loops I have on my Electro-Harmonix 2880 right now and if I were to re-record this song I would like to do it soon, as I would like to do some new stuff.

There is a link in my signature but you cn also click here http://www.myspace.com/sambeckerantihuman

Thank you for listening and for your input,
Sam.

Very interesting, thank you. I liked the first glissando that went up in to the drone loop. Your tone has a middle-eastern vibe to it. The loop that comes in about half way sort of reminds me of symphonic chimes being struck. Were there ever more than two loops playing at once? Another thing I liked about was that although it was in time it didn't have a 'metronomic' feel that a lot of funk/groove looped songs do. I could definitely imagine this in a coffee shop setting.

Thank you for the very nice words. I have been loving arabic music and ouds lately so I have tried to incorporate their elements in my tone and phrasing. As for the loops there is the initial "marching" loop at 1:09, the harmonic loop at 1:52 and the "chimey" loop at 2:13.

Thats also great to hear that you could imagine this in a coffee shop setting, as I would like to start playing live again (this time without a band) and was hoping my music could be accessible.

Very interesting. So you did set out to create different 'movements' then with each of the pre-made loops setting a distinct mood or style? Did you set this up so that you could play for a variable number of measures for each 'section' so that depending on where your head was on that particular day, you could expand the live playing for as many 'choruses' as you wanted, or were the three looped sections already attached together in a single sample? I think it works for sure. I also liked how, during the climax of the tune, there was interaction between the loop and the live track.

Initially I was just improvising to a droned A, then added the quarter note mutes and then the other loops over about half an hour.

I use an Electro-Harmonix 2880

So I can pre-record loops and fade them in (a bit trickier when live playing, but most of my songs are looped in real time anyway). The loop you hear at 1:09 is one channels one and two, the harmonic loop is channel three and the chimey loop is the fourth channel. When I started this song I had the volume sliders at the bottom and just leaned over and faded them in when it seemed appropriate.
