Need help finding Pearl Jam song !!

Sign in to disble this ad
I need help identifying a Pearl Jam song that I want to get a copy of.

The song is slow (probably 90 bpm), straight 4/4.

The bassist (Ament?) appears to be playing a fretless and does some simple, yet tasteful fills up the neck.

The drummer plays a whisper-quiet two-stroke ruff starting on the "a" of 4 in many bars to augment his basic beat.

"Her legs spread out before me ... as her" is the only stinkin' vocal line I can remember from hearing it on the radio over the years.

I think the song appeared on Ten or the follow up.

I can't access Lyrics.com from where I work (filter blocks it) or I'd look it up myself.

Any help?

yup it's off Ten

but....

Pearl Jam's, "Black"
Misheard Lyrics:
Her legs spread out before me as her body laid still.
Correct Lyrics:
Were laid spread out before me as her body once did.

great tune

Here is the full Lyric

Quote:
"Black"

Hey...oooh...
Sheets of empty canvas, untouched sheets of clay
Were laid spread out before me as her body once did
All five horizons revolved around her soul
As the earth to the sun
Now the air I tasted and breathed has taken a turn
Ooh, and all I taught her was everything
Ooh, I know she gave me all that she wore
And now my bitter hands chafe beneath the clouds
Of what was everything?
Oh, the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything...
I take a walk outside
I'm surrounded by some kids at play
I can feel their laughter, so why do I sear
Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin round my head
I'm spinning, oh, I'm spinning
How quick the sun can, drop away
And now my bitter hands cradle broken glass
Of what was everything?
All the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything...
All the love gone bad turned my world to black
Tattooed all I see, all that I am, all I'll ever be...yeah...
Uh huh...uh huh...ooh...
I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a sun
In somebody else's sky, but why
Why, why can't it be, why can't it be mine

JH,

Thanks for the info. So it's Black, eh? I had a hunch that my lyrics were wrong!

One of the reasons I wanted to know is because my group's drummer plays ruffs too loudly for my taste.

I want him to hear the feather-light ruffs on Black - a good example, I feel, of an embellishment on the snare that is barely audible, yet an important component of the groove.

Who's the drummer on Black - Jack Irons?

Thanks again - may have to pick up that CD soon!

Yeah, should be Jack Irons. Matt Cameron came much later AFAIK.
