Need Help Finding Prog Band's Name

Sign in to disble this ad
I once found a prog band's CD at BestBuy.com that I really wanted, but now I can't remember their name. I'm pretty sure it was a one-word name, and both the band's name and the song titles on their album were all really mystical/deep/mythological/having to do with nature-sounding. I think one song title had to do with the ocean. All of the tracks were instrumentals, and they were all very melodic metal with some synth stuff- it was really well done- not cheesy- and I believe the album was done in the last ten years. Sounded a bit like the newer Neurosis albums...not really chugga-chugga metal. Any help?

ISIS? They are pretty much a botched clone of Neurosis.

Might it be Pelican? They sound a bit Neurosis-like, are all instrumental, and one of their songs is called March to the Sea (from "the fire in our throats will beckon the thaw").

Uhh, my other guess would be Isis, but they're not 100% instrumental. More like 70% or so.

Pelican don't have any synths though, but Isis have (very subtle, almost inaudible and cheese-less).

Your description made me think of the same 2 bands. Here are links to their websites, I'm sure they have clips posted.

Pelican
Isis

Pelican- thank you, that was it!

Oh and BC- I said no vocals, no multiple harmonies of grown men singing in falsetto about lightning and trolls

Pelican is awesoooome live. I saw them with Opeth in dallas like back in October.
To me they sound a lot like Explosions in The Sky.

I am SO glad I read this thread. I always love getting suggestions for bands I should check out.

My GAS problem includes CDs, and I'd say it's a lot worse for them than it is for gear. I guess that's a good thing, considering their relative costs.
