Not sure where to post this:

The group I play with is looking to get into a small studio to record a couple of tracks. We are 3 beginners, and were aren't good yet by any means. Reason we want to record is to have a benchmark of where we are. We practice in a garage and have a decent recording device, but it just doesnt translate well as all the levels are all off and all you really hear are drums. We are looking for something very cheap and maybe a little guidance with the whole process. If anyone has any ideas, we'd love to hear them. Thanks!

Start up costs for recording can be high. I use the JamBus Studio which records on to a micro disc and gives you .wav files to run on your PC. Here is a link for their products:

I have the tourbus ($699) one which is the only one that has a built in recorder. the other ones will record but this model just records with-out any hassle. Do your homework, check it out and it might be what you are look ing for. The ZoomH2N is also a good field recorder but I prefer the Jamhub , since you can play and not disturb your neighbors and get a bench mark as to where you are at. . . .
