It's great that they give you 90 seconds of preview, so you can really get a sense of the song.

I have to ask, how do you pull off the title track live? Do you overdub or just play it without the horns? If you play it without the horns, I would be interested in hearing that version as well. |

Fugato...where to start...
We're very adamant about keeping things to the trio, both on the record and live. However, Fugato just needed to have the huge production to convey the meaning of the song. We've had those horn parts arranged for years.
Live, we don't hire a horn section. We just try to rock it as hard as we can, and for what it's worth, we haven't heard anyone say that they wished we had a horn section (except for the ending, all of the actual parts are covered between the three of us anyway).
However, you probably noticed the added "percussion" on this track. Anthony works construction, so one day he brought in a bunch of tools and other bits of construction equipment into the studio. We sampled everything and ended up making the second "beat" in Fugato out of these sounds. It gives it an almost STOMP effect that I love. For live shows, we've loaded these sounds onto a sampler, and Ben triggers them while playing the regular beat. I think it really helps fill things out.
I'll let you know if and when we release another version of Fugato, or maybe we'll have to swing your way to catch us live. Any venue suggestions?
Thanks again for checking out the album!
