Just got my grubby little mitts on a copy - and my lord, it's good.
The legacy alone made this this a must-have, but the quality of the music on top of it might make this my album of the year.

So how does it stack up? Believable as a AIC record or a tad different? The single they put out seemed pretty much in AIC style to me.
Good to hear it wasnt a bust, Im always nervous about new releases especially with a new front man.

Where did you get it?
Where can I get it?
I'm seeing them live on Mon (9/21) and I've been pissed that the announced album release date is after that. Quote:

My brother is in Kuwait and he gets his hands on everything before it is "released".

I can definitely tell that Cantrell has sole writers credit on the majority of the songs (which isn't a bad thing). So, if you enjoyed his solo albums, you'll probably like this.
Plus Elton John guests (on piano) on the track "Black Gives Way to Blue". |

His solo albums were strong efforts so it's a natural transition; he's been developing his craft as a singer more and more. Many of these riffs remind me of Degredation Trip too. Much heavier direction as was "degradation".
What I don't get is that he tends to let Duvall take on more of a lead role live, so why not represent that in the mix on the new release? Still, i can see the choice makes sense as his voice will sound more familiar and will tie the new release to the old.
It's all very well structured song writing and an evenly great mixing job, no matter your preference.
also ~~ BUY a HARD COPY! |

Layne was the man for sure, but I am pretty sure that chapter is closed.
