New Alice in Chains is here... and is NOT disappointing!

Just got my grubby little mitts on a copy - and my lord, it's good.

The legacy alone made this this a must-have, but the quality of the music on top of it might make this my album of the year.

I thought it came out in like a week and a half, how did YOU get it eh?

So how does it stack up? Believable as a AIC record or a tad different? The single they put out seemed pretty much in AIC style to me.

Good to hear it wasnt a bust, Im always nervous about new releases especially with a new front man.

I only heard one song on the radio here and I thought it was pretty good. I'd like to hear the entire cd.

What the heck?
Where did you get it?
Where can I get it?
I'm seeing them live on Mon (9/21) and I've been pissed that the announced album release date is after that.

Overseas, maybe?

My brother is in Kuwait and he gets his hands on everything before it is "released".

re: alice in chains

The album leaked to P2P networks yesterday (9-17-09) and is easily available via torrents as well. I agree the album is amazing. Check it out but make sure and support the boys by buying the album on the 29th!

I saw them about a year ago at the Wiltern Theater, they were amazing, and the new singer did a great job.

They've been playing it a lot in Seattle on KISW (AIC, being from Seattle, gave them permission to play the whole thing on air) and I agree that it is AMAZING. I will also be buying it ASAP.

The tune "Check My Brain" is so good. I can't get enough of it.

Listening to the tracks now via youtube. Most of it is pretty good, a lot of it seems directionless. My biggest gripe is - I'd like to hear DuVall sing, not just back Jerry constantly.

Mike Inez needs his own Signature bass from Warwick in that silverburst finish.

I'm about 5 track in on my first listen through. Really like what I've hear so far. I can definitely tell that Cantrell has sole writers credit on the majority of the songs (which isn't a bad thing). So, if you enjoyed his solo albums, you'll probably like this.

Plus Elton John guests (on piano) on the track "Black Gives Way to Blue".

Yes! I agree about it being very Jerry heavy. This was surprising in some ways and not in others. His solo albums were strong efforts so it's a natural transition; he's been developing his craft as a singer more and more. Many of these riffs remind me of Degredation Trip too. Much heavier direction as was "degradation".

What I don't get is that he tends to let Duvall take on more of a lead role live, so why not represent that in the mix on the new release? Still, i can see the choice makes sense as his voice will sound more familiar and will tie the new release to the old.
It's all very well structured song writing and an evenly great mixing job, no matter your preference.

also ~~ BUY a HARD COPY!

"private hell" is the highlight of the disc, IMO

You're nuts. Layne was the man for sure, but I am pretty sure that chapter is closed.

Then why comment about it here?
