My son brought in the latest offering from George Martin et al, and it's got my head in a spin. It's hard to even describe. This is the soundtrack to the new Cirque de Soleil Las Vegas. IMO, this is a masterpiece of audio engineering. This is how it works - think of a continuous piece of music with each song having a place but with transitions and overlays using dozens of other songs. Everything on the album is the Beatles. That is a piss poor description so you'll just have to go out and get the record.
No, I don't have any connection with the Beatles or their catalog
BTW, there are a zillion ideas for bands that do Beatles material here. These are incredibly clever and tasteful combinations. |

It is a lot of fun to try and decipher what original songs were used, and each time you listen to it, you pick up something different (eg, I didn't pick up the drum intro from 'Why Don't We Do It In The Road' at first...just wasn't expecting it.)
Not all the songs are "mashed", however. Several of the songs have only been remastered, such as 'Walrus', 'Help', and 'Something'. But these sound great (and different) also...Paul's vocals are louder this time round in 'Come Together', and we also get to hear some Paul ad-libbing towards the end of 'Back in the USSR'.
In conclusion, get the album - The Beatles never sounded so good. This only makes me want the Beatles catalogue remastered even more...

| | | | It sounds like a cool album.
I saw Cirque de Soleil on Jay Leno the other night and was a bit dissapointed in that all they did was dance around and jump off of a Volkswagon Beetle to the music. But I suppose that it was just a small portion of their stage show, maybe they do more cool stuff in their Las Vegas show. |

As a long time Beatles fan I was prepared not to like it, those original recordings are as close to perfection as it gets and I wasn't sure how I would like having them messed with. Have no fear George Martin and his son Giles have done a job that at the same time respect the original recordings and brings a new look at old favorites by changing some elements and bringing others more to the front of the mix. The vocals sound awesome, more distinct. Parts that were always there but subtle before are more present in the mix, string parts, horn parts, keyboard parts and George's guitar that were always there get spotlighted. The bass parts are also polished up and sit really well in the mix revealing nuances in McCartney's playing and tones. There are also some parts that have been moved between songs makeing whole new constructions. The version with the DVD-Audio disc present the music in even more interesting mixes using 5.1 surround to present the music.
All in all this is a new way to (re)experience the wonderful music of The Beatles. |

And the remastered tracks are ruined by talking that wasn't on the original tracks or fake audience noise. While it's a fine introduction to the Beatles for young folks or fans of show tunes who would never hear them otherwise, I'll take the original versions.
