Your wish is my command....check out Bela Fleck - Tales From the Acoustic Planet...ok so it's more Edgar Meyer than Vic I believe but who would you rather hear play upright?! If you say Vic then I'll assume you've never heard Edgar Meyer.

I have Edgar recordings up the wazoo.

However, I have yet to hear either of the Brothers Wooten on acoustic instruments, with the exception of Vic's cello on "The Loneliest Monk" and Futch's trashcan percussion on "Live Art."

If you have Live Art, you hear Vic's cello on disc 2, track 2, "Shubbee's Doobie". You can also hear it on "Shanti," from the Flecktones album Left of Cool. Also, Future Man typically uses his kit in almost every show, mainly for his solo spot, but he also uses his acoustic cymbals a lot. I guess he doesn't like the MIDI cymbal sounds...

Well again if you get Tales From the Acoustic Planet you will hear futureman playing acoustic drumset. His "drum set" is made of banjo heads but those are basically just drum heads anyway so same thing. Mostly plays them with brushes.

certainly there are times when it doesn't sound all that great, but a good percentage of the time it's solid and it really works well.

I really want to hear Roy's other creation the Roy-el, it's like a synth piano, except it plays the resonant frequencies from the periodic elements(brought up to audible ranges of course)
Well, I agree that the drumitar isn't great, but like WR says, it works really well.

The Roy-el... I heard it live during Futch's solo bit. I was less than impressed. While interesting at the very first, it's so dissonant that it's bad. Not dissonant in a musical sense, but just bad. I guess a big part of that is that he hasn't had a lot of time to compose for that thing yet.

And like everyone, I can't wait for the new album. They played some of it live when I saw them, and I liked all the new material.

I wasn't as impressed with their last studio album, "Outbound," as I was with their earlier stuff. "Outbound" was just a little too overproduced for my taste and lacked the spontaneity of their earlier material. Does anyone know what direction they're taking with their new one?

I don't like weird stuff when it's for weirdness' sake, but I love it when people approach things differently. The drumitar is one of those things that could well become the norm one day. It's easier to lug around than a bunch of drums. Still, nothing beats the sound of a stick hitting a drum in real time, for now anyway.

I think it's smart that they're expanding their palettes. It gives the audience something new and themselves as well; after all, doing the same thing exactly over and over can get boring pretty quickly.

My favorite BFF discs are still the first four (with Howard Levy), so I'll wait to hear what you all have to say before I shell out my money for the disc.

The drumitar becoming 'the norm'? I seriously doubt it. Remember the Synth-Axe? And Simmons drums, et al? I dunno, IMO, drummer-types would rather haul around cans/cymbals vs. drumitar AND amp/monitor.
I know I would.

Hitting a drum in real time has been around since the dawn of man...it ain't going away(I hope)!

Agree with you on the 1st 4 'Tones' albums.
Outbound didn't really float me boat, either, Alex.

I recieved the Little Worlds C.D. yesterday, three
C.D.'s is a lot to take in, but after a few listens I like it! They probably could have edited it down to two because each C.D. is not all that long, but for twentyfive bucks....still a deal. So far one of my favorite songs is Mudslinger of the Milky-Way.......serious growl from Victor's bass! Lots of guests too, including Derek Trucks

BTW disc one & three have those annoying "hidden" tracks that leave a lot of dead air on both disc's.
Drives me bonkers waiting for the next C.D.
to start
