New Cheap Trick, "The Latest"

I'm surprised this hasn't been getting any talkbass love. The last 3 Cheap Trick albums stand up to anything else they've done in their career, and "The Latest" may be the best yet. Check out the song "Sick Man of Europe"; Tom Petersson's tone gives Entwistle a run for his money. I'm thinking P-bass as he generally doesn't use the 12 strings in the studio.

Sorry about that--actually most of the time I'm trying to provide constructive criticism, not saying I don't like this or that. But in this case I really don't like Cheap Trick. No harm meant though, I know a lot of people enjoy them, and there's music I like that others roll their eyes at.

At least you're witty about it.

I agree with the Entwistle comparison - sounds like Ox on Quadrophenia album - what was the song - "5:15" ??

My guess is its Petersson's Thunderbird or his yellow Epiphone Embassy - I think Entwistle was using a 64 Thunderbird in the studio on Quadrophenia - so that would make sense.

BTW - huge cheap trick fan since around 1979 - when I was a 14 year old kid.

I blame Rick Nielsen and John Entwistle's "fantasy sequence" in "Kids Are Alright" for my triple-digit guitar and bass collection !!!

No harm, no foul.

But I must admit, as soon as I saw you had replied I was bracing myself for the snarky comment

I like the song. And I agree that it's probably an old T-Bird or Embassy on the recording. I've got Rockford and Special One. Both are good, but still not quite what the first releases back in the '70s were, in my mind.

I like them them, too, and I roll my eyes at myself for it?

Good song, but my favorite few from the old days were just so darn catchy...

Did Cheap Trick do the theme song for the new Transformers movie? I heard it on the radio and it sounded like them.

I've been playing this song over an over today in the car. I just love the bass.
