New Chick Corea CD with Carles Benavent

Sign in to disble this ad
Nice new CD... just released on Chick's website. The title of the CD is 'The Ultimate Adventure'. Chick is going back to his 'Light as a Feather' roots.

Vinnie and Gadd on drums, Airto on percussion, Carles on bass, Hubert Laws on flute.

Ken,

Have you picked up the album yet? I've been meaning to but haven't got around to it yet.

Can you buy it in stores or only in the website?

It came in the mail yesterday. It's very nice... Carles sounds great. It has the vibe of the early 'Light as a Feather' era recordings, playing and writing.

I also have the previous CD with Carles playing bass... the more 'Flamenco' type recording. While there are some high points, I just am not a fan of Gayle Moran's (I think that's the spelling) singing... and there is a LOT of it on that CD.

So, IMO, if you want to hear Carles with Chick, this would be a better CD to get.

I also have a couple of live Paco CD's with Carles playing. The sound quality on those CD's is not great, but the playing is fabulous. I had the pleasure of seeing Carles with Paco in the 90's and also Carles with Chick recently.... very, very unique and cool!

I assume the new CD will be widely available, but I pre-ordered a while ago on his site.... got a nice note and autograph from Chick with the CD... nice!

We have to wait until next month to get this on our side of the pond.

Carles has actually just put out a new album, co-credited to guitarist Josemi Carmona, which includes Chick Corea as a guest on a couple of tracks: http://www.flamenco-world.com/notici...nt19012006.htm

Introduced the electric bass to flamenco 30 or so years ago, and a long-time sideman to guitarist Paco de Lucia. Plays with a plectrum, and has devastating technique - not many bassists can keep up with Paco at full speed.

Here's a couple of video clip of Carles jamming over some blues:

E-C tuning, close-spaced 5'ver... I think that it is a 32 inch scale Drozd.

Finally picked this album up today. Listening to it now and liking it A LOT. The 'Light as a Feather' concept updated for 2006. Great bass work from Benavent.

The lineup of drum/percussion talent on this disc is amazing: Hossam Ramzy, Airto Moreira, Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta, Tom Brechtlein and Rubem Dantas!

Plus, it's nice to hear Hubert Laws back playing something other than "smooth jazz".
