New demo on Youtube - Dual bass band, The HEAP

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello All,
I just thought I would share a demo of a new tune my band, The HEAP has been working on. We are an "indie-soul" band out of Athens, GA. We are oping to have the single ready in the next month or so with a "real" video. I would love to hear what you think of the tune:
‪The HEAP "It's Your Own Kinda Thing" unfinished demo from upcoming release‬‏ - YouTube

We have since re-cut the vocals and added backing vocals and a bari sax part but this video will give you an idea of the direction we are taking.

I look forward to hearing what you think.

I think it is really smooth I like the bass line, what was your setup for this recording? (bass/strings/amp etc.)

Love it!

Awesomely voiced horns, remind me of a particular sound soul and early reggae bands were getting in the late '60s.

Digging the bass of course!

Love it man. Nice throwback. Your vocalist has a great voice too. Clean horns too. I'd definitely check you guys out... Wait. That didn't sound right.

Thanks/Gear

Thanks so much for the feedback.

Crozier247, On almost all of the current HEAP tunes, I play an Epiphone Rumblekat which I string A-D-G-C

through an H.B.E. "Big D" distortion pedal (I actually bought it from Dave Schools)

I am playing it through a Reissue '59 Fender Bassman LTD

I am covering the "rhythm" bass on the 2 & 4. I will see if I can get the other bass player (also a TB'er) to describe his setup.

The tune was recorded at our tenor sax player's house using logic. The horns were recorded live through a stereo ribbon mic.

I am also the vocalist.

Thanks so much for checking it out. If you like what you hear, check out our facebook page. it has some pics from the session as well as links to some live audio.

hi- I'm Jeff, the other bassist on the track linked by the OP, Bryan. Thanks so much for the comments and feeback. We were definitely striving for an "old school" soul sound on this recording.

The bass part was tracked with a Squier Classic Vibe Jazz strung with Thomastik Jazz Flats. The signal chain was bass, SABDDI (Drive on 3oclock, but Blend on about 9 oclock, so not much SA effect), GK MB500 ( configured for a flat sound but on the boost channel), driving a single Yamaha BB110T cab. I believe the microphone on the cab was a Heil, but I'm not sure of the model. I am also unsure of the exact pre-amp used to take the signal into Logic. Sorry about the lack of detail there.

Thanks for listening.

Good stuff mate. Like it.

Check out NoMeansNo 'bodybag' for one of the best dual bass tracks I've ever heard.
