Hey guys! Lately, I've been playing a lot of solo stuff locally , but I just recently got some demos published! Additionally, it's kind of morphed into a band as late (with fellow TBer, jbo!). I'd really appreciate it if you guys could take a listen and give me some feedback on the mix, quality, and the song itself! www.reverbnation.com/briansimpson
Also, it's all available for download, so feel free to download it, copy it, and steal it to your hearts content.
And if you're feeling it.. I have a facebook group under the same name as well, |

Warm Summer Day. Guitar is too hot and the sound is too harsh. Bass sounds great. Snare is a bit hollow. Accordion rocks.
Traffic jams: Same guitar sound, just not my thing I guess, still too hot. Guitar sould be behind the vocals, not the same volume IMO. Better snare. Bass still rocks
Meadows: Great guitar sound, love the fret and finger noise, Clicks are a bit too loud the first time, better 2nd time. This is cool and fun.
Waiting to be uncovered: Great balance, I like this mix better than the first two. I probably would have gone after a cleaner bass tone in the verses, more like what you did in the chorus or even more clean J like, this is a tough one. The playing is killer. The guitar solo is so so.
Just opinions

1. Warm Summer Day - Do you suggest I lower the guitar in the mix just in general? Or is it just too harsh in the EQ? As for the snare, what would you suggest for that?
2. Traffic Jams - Yeah, I understand what you think about the guitar. I didn't spend enough time on mixing these tracks as I should have. In reality, I like to spend a lot of time on them because my opinion will change from day to day, but meh. I got impatient.
3. Meadows - Thanks man! Noise was killing me on this one for sure.
4. Waiting to be Uncovered - Thanks a lot man. I definitely spent the most time on this particular mix. I see what you mean with the J tone during the verses though. I think that would have been very appropriate. I definitely like the P tone during the chorus though. And I agree with the guitar solo.. I'm definitely not the best guitarist, hahaha. Any suggestions for the solo?
Thanks a lot man! I truly appreciate it. |

Thanks a lot man! I truly appreciate it. | 1. I would soften the sound and pull back the volume. The snare should be tight and snappy.
2. I'm the same way, I've rerecorded some songs a dozens of times.
3. I actually like the "noise"
4. Personally I would treat the solo a bit more like a traditional bridge, let it reset the song for a big ending. It just needs to flow and groove with the rest of the song better and be shorter, IMO.
Good luck and God speed, I'm looking foward to hearing more.
Mike

I can understand how this song might sound better with a tighter snare. Agreed with the guitar volume though.
2. Gah, I hate it! I wish I had the time to re-record everything I wanted to, heh.
3. Oh, okay!
4. That makes a lot of sense. I always end up making guitar solos a lot longer than they should be and try and fit too many riffs into a small space. I should probably go back to transcribing some good SRV or Hendrix, heh. Unfortunately, I probably won't re-record the solo based on time constraints with school and such.
Montanamike, I truly appreciate it man. All of your stuff has been duly noted. Thanks! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
