New jazzy/drum 'n' bass/rock/funk studio tunes from my band

Hey

Well with home recording being what it is - me and my band Big Fan set up in the guitarist's front room last weekend and knocked down 7 tunes in three hours - and the results really kick ass. All we used was Macbook, MOTU 828, Garageband and some mics - just two for the drums, one overhead and a kick mic, bass went direct from the back of my SWR Baby Baby Blue - guitar and sax were on single mics.

We play a mix of groove-orientated stuff - be it funk, drum and bass, rock, and latin - there's a ballad too 'Life In A Loop', I wrote this one, plus 'Push' and 'Vanishing Point', the other three are by the guitarist Christian - who plays the most amazing solo on Juicy Dangler.

Anyway - please have a listen - the energy is great and the guys are so talented - our drummer Sophie Alloway truly rocks, she's amazing and Jack Beeche on sax is a monster as well.

Cheers peeps - hope you dig the vibe.

Hey

Sorry for the bump - I was hoping a few more of you might dig this - maybe we suck - tell me. There's some great playing on here from these guys - rocking metal-death jazz funk...

Anyway - hope you dug some of it

Cheers

dude, this is excellent. I would love to make music like this. Need to find some talented musicians around here...

edit: still loving it. watching your videos on your myspace. it's weird...like its bordering on smooth jazz/adult contemporary, but you guys funk/swing it up enough to avoid being thrown into that loop. Excellent club/bar music. If that was playing at a place I went to I would be more than pleased. Love it man. Keep doing what you're doing

How did you get garageband to sound so decent, we recently recorded on it and it sounds like crap. Although it is just the singer/rhythm guitar player doing his thing for the most part. We each plugged in separately on the song About Love and laid down a track, then mixed them together. No drums.

Hears what it sounded like:

Be warned, not pretty. We plan on rerecording it soon with everything. Not to mention I'm kind of off as well.

Cheers guys - good to have some feedback - we play this way because we love it - glad that seems to come across.

Re Garage band - couple of tips - we used a really good sound card a MOTU 828 - plus we just miked stuff well, but not with expensive mics... we all have decent gear too so that helps. I just got some nice KRK Rokit6 monitors which helped with the mixing. I'm not sire what else to suggest.

Thanks for having a listen

M
