So far, I'm not addicted, but I'm giving his melodies some time to start grabbing me. "What is Hip?" is smoking and different enough from the classic that it's cool. "Free" is beautiful. I stray in some of the grooves that seem a little repetitive, but, his tone rules and I am a huge Marcus fan. I hope to catch him at BB Kings in April. |

Cool stuff for sure, esp PLUCK and WHAT IS HIP.

I think that is why so much of his stuff, which is very smooth jazz sounding, still comes off as inspired since he is not some "serious" musician "playing down to the masses" for some extra money.
I really liked "Blast" I think he has been listening to Peter Muller. That track definitely has Muller's drum machine/Middle East feel. I think Marcus proves he has a sense of humor by covering "Higher Ground." One can only imagine how many times he heard the Flea version of that bassline at clinics or NAMM shows! I like his bassline on "What is Hip," but that song was meant for vocals, not a sax melody.

I'm about to buy it off of iTunes, but if there's one with more tracks available somewhere, I want that one!

5sg | I meant "Blast." I should have had the CD jacket in front of me when I was first posting about this.

Some great tracks on here... Exactly what we know to expect from Marcus and deep groove.
