Well, I'll definitely be on the lookout for this. I hope it's not a repackaged version of Free.

I downloaded this on iTUNES and having problems with it on my iPOD but not my PC. I never had this before: my iPOD just skips through the songs.

My iTunes copy is fine. I need several listens for this one to sink in. So far, I'm not addicted, but I'm giving his melodies some time to start grabbing me. "What is Hip?" is smoking and different enough from the classic that it's cool. "Free" is beautiful. I stray in some of the grooves that seem a little repetitive, but, his tone rules and I am a huge Marcus fan. I hope to catch him at BB Kings in April.

Thats what it is, with a couple extra tracks. For some reason I didn't get Free so I'm really digging it!

I like this CD. The thing to remember about Marcus Miller is that although he is a virtuoso, he is at heart a pop musician. I think that is why so much of his stuff, which is very smooth jazz sounding, still comes off as inspired since he is not some "serious" musician "playing down to the masses" for some extra money.

I really liked "Blast" I think he has been listening to Peter Muller. That track definitely has Muller's drum machine/Middle East feel. I think Marcus proves he has a sense of humor by covering "Higher Ground." One can only imagine how many times he heard the Flea version of that bassline at clinics or NAMM shows! I like his bassline on "What is Hip," but that song was meant for vocals, not a sax melody.

Wait... Slang? Or are you talking about Blast, the first track? Pluck also has a middle eastern feel to it.

I'm about to buy it off of iTunes, but if there's one with more tracks available somewhere, I want that one!

I meant "Blast." I should have had the CD jacket in front of me when I was first posting about this.

No problem at all... Guess I just got myself all excited that maybe he covered Jaco's "Slang." Man, wouldn't THAT be cool! hehehe

I'm listening to it right now on Rhapsody.
Some great tracks on here... Exactly what we know to expect from Marcus and deep groove.

Great CD!! Plenty of groovalicious tracks to funk with and cop from. I like it much better than Silver Rain (as a whole). Definately a winner. I can't wait to see him at BB King's in April.

If I'm not mistaken, Marcus actually dedicated a track to Peter Muller.

In the liner notes it says "Thanks to Peter Muller and Chyco Simeon for the inspiration".
