Overall the production is massive - as you'd expect - and Marcus just plays like a man possessed - typically he makes a few populist noises like the Prince and Stevie covers - but the one thing that I love is that he just sounds like he's having so much fun - while still playing some great, greart music. He manages to get the balance between lots of bass, accessible grooves and credible musical content - all good.
I'm sad to say that by comparison - from the clips I've heard - that my predictions about the new Wooten project have been confermed - i.e. he's going all the way down the cheesey radio freindly stuff of Yin Yang and the Live in America CD - Marcus' stuff even at its most accessible still sounds 'hipper' and more contemporary than Vic's - I still dig Vic's playing but Marcus is definitely showing his maturity and depth as a musician.

I am so glad someone said this!
I pointed out how lame I thought the new Victor Wooten album was, (what with the cheesy PM DAWN style raps, and other problems) in my "open letter to Victor" rant...and was promptly called an "idiot" by several posters....
I feel vindicated that at least one other person agrees with me and was let down by Victor's album...
Silver rain, on the other hand, just KILLS! An unbelievable sound jumping out of my car stereo speakers!
Proof that you can make a great bass album, forget about trying for top 40 hits...and still sound great!
As far as Victor goes...I have given the album more listens, to see if I changed my mind, and it still is horrible. Rapping like that was and is dated and cheesy...De La Soul, tribe called quest, PM dawn..all did it better...and the modern rap style being used today is more current...
Victor went for maximum cheese, to prove that he is a song writer, and not just a bass player.
I would have preferred him sticking to blowing me away on the bass!
