Anyway I always liked Newsted but even in exile they still bag on him. James, give it up already he's out of the band!

We talked about working with Rick Rubin, their updated sound, an upcoming Metallica video game, the 20th anniversary of their album “And Justice for All,” recording and touring with “new” bassist Robert Trujillo, and much, much more. And they had nothing but great things to say about Robert. In fact, James Hetfield went as far as saying that “Rob had contributed more to this record than Jason [Newsted] had in 15 years.”

Sorry maybe that makes me a Newsted fan boy, but he is a very cool guy and talented bass player. http://newsroom.mtv.com/2008/08/01/m...e-middle-east/ |

"rob has done more stuff on this record than jason in his whole 14 years. No disrespect to jason though, it was mostly us who didnt let him contribute." | We'll have to wait to judge about that untill we hear the new album.
Jason added good stuff to Metallica, as far as he was allowed to. I think James said that in vain to Jason, and to promote their ringer.
We'll have to see if Rob really (was allowed) to add to the new songs. I sure hope so, Rob is a great bassist.
But a fair guess is that they just use his bassplaying to place an extra "aggressive-fingerstyle-bass" over their crappy?/good? (we'll have to see) songs.
If I have to choose between Jason and his former band, my respect goes to Jason.
Rob is a really good bassist in my eyes but to me to this day he is just a guy who took a job.
