New music. Old music.

I've just finished what may be a final version of a song from my upcoming acoustic EP. I'm still not completely satisfied with it, but hell; I'm recording this in my apartment so I guess I shouldn't agonize the details I can't control. Here it is:

The Patmos Vision

Also, for comparison's sake, I've posted an older song of mine as well:

Lamentations: The Widow

I'd appreciate your comments and critiques.

i remember lamentations! that was the one i always am thinking of when i talk about your old work that you used to put up here--I love that song!
as for the new song, very cool--it sounds like it'd have a more mainstream attraction, which is cool. I don't think you can really compare these two songs as they sound very different. You wouldn't think that these two songs were made by the same person! very cool. I really like the work that you've always put on talkbass I hope you keep up the music--you've got a real talent for writing songs

Thank you for your kind words. Truth be told, I wrote this song ages ago... when I was about 19 or so. I've never been able to record it to my liking until now, and I still don't care for the production much. Damn square rooms...

The rest of the acoustic stuff is actually a bit less conventional. It's actually closer to the Lamentations sort of vibe, but with all acoustic instruments and found objects. Hopefully I'll get that going soon.

I got busted.

My roommate listened to this tune for the first time today and pointed out some critical flaws - flaws that I noticed, but ignored. Sitting in front of a computer for hours on end working on a single minute long song can't be good for one's mental health.

I have since updated and fixed this tune. Some timing issues were solved, an organ part was added to help with the overall flow, and some vocals were fixed. Much better, methinks.

Here's the update: The Patmos Vision.

I could still stand for some more criticism, however. Any punters?

I downloaded this song of yours when I first saw the thread and didn't really like it. I downloaded thinking it would be more like your other stuff, Burnt Infant etc. However over the past month this track has really grown on me, and I can't get enough of it.

I'd be interesting in an EP if you're planning on selling one (and would ship to the U.K.)

Wow... thanks! That's the ultimate compliment, I think: to have a song grow on you. I'm blown away.

I've got all of June off before I head out on tour in July. I hope to get a ton of recording done then. I'll be posting clips (but not full songs) as they develop.

Well, I really liked it. Production wise, I'm not sure the vocals sit well with the rest of it, but thats a subjective thing I guess.

I like the new song alot. I've been listening to alot of Agalloch (the mantle) lately and my ears hear some similarities in style (a nice mandolin solo would sit well in this ). Also: I remember listening to Burnt Infant awhile ago and really liking it. Great work, keep it up.

I'm in agreement with that. Production on the voclas is the best I could do given the limitations of my studio and my knowledge. I wish I could record these in a real studio environment, but I guess my apartment will have to do.
