It's been two years with the old singer getting the Trump treatment and their search for a new one. Well, the new album is in the stores, now. Anyone else who's given it a listen?
They ended up swapping the old, classically trained singer with a new one who has bit more of a pop music background. Her most notable acheveament was singing in a rockband that got very little media attention, and later in an Abba musical, I think. She's not bad, though - surprisingly versatile, actually.
With the change, I think they have gone from the Opera Metal thingie even more towards something that could be called Theatric Metal - even so that the 'metal' is dissappearing into the massive soundscape with orchestrations and choirs. Despite this, it sounds kind of like Metallica's S&M given a movie soundtrack treatment, actually. The new singer fits into the music, in the sense that her vocals don't steal all the attention. They've also lost a tad of the cheezyness with that, but there's still a lot of the cliché stuff going on, of course.
It's not a bad album, quite on the contrary, actually. It's a very professional package by all means. I have no idea how they are going to top this one on the next album, since this seems to be the pinnacle of Nightwish-style Orchestrated Metal. I'd give it.. 8.5/10.
