So...my last project folded up shop a couple months ago. Sucks in a way, because we all got along really well and worked well together...even if it was a bit slow at times. Three pretty much had the same vision of the sound we wanted, while two wanted something a bit different. After a week, the three of us who kinda shared the same vision decided to get together again and start auditioning drummers (our prior drummer wanted to move back to guitar). After some good, some bad, we found a guy who fit the bill.
Now we're after a vocalist. What a treat that always is.
We know what we want to hear, but we have no idea if anyone we have scheduled to come in will be the one. We're trying to go about it a bit differently this time. We've recorded a track we came up with over the first couple sessions and have distributed it to everyone interested. Now it's 100% up to them what to write for it, but instead of having them come in and play with the live band...we're having them come in and record their version in our studio. We figure this will give us a handful of options to go back and listen to with fresh ears. We have our first 'candidates' coming in tomorrow through Sunday, and I'm super curious on what will come out of it all.
It's a bit different than the prior gig, not so loose and dirty...it's tight and focused, but with a wide open sound. I say it's intense, but instead of like being hit with a sledgehammer, it's more like trying to eat a flamethrower.
If you're interested, you can download a copy of the raw, instrument-only track
here. You just may want to turn your low end down a bit, it's uncompressed so the mix is a bit heavy on the bottom end still.
Anyways...I'll throw some of the audition tracks up over the next couple weeks and see how you all feel about the vocalists we get.
