You can get the download version or the 'discbox' version, which includes the album on vinyl and CD. Discbox is £40, but download is whatever you want to pay, including £0.00. Interesting concept. If it turns out that I really like the album, I think I'm going to save up for the boxed version. |

I still like having the physical CD and artwork etc but as much as I dig Radiohead, I can't see paying over $80 for the disc box. Especially considering that I no longer even have a functioning record player.
I suppose I'll have to make due with the download. |

Certainly not every band could do something like this but since Radiohead seem to earn the most money by touring anyways this seems like a good move for them. I think it's a great position to be in, having full control of your own music and the way it is released. I've heard some rumours of a regular CD release sometime early next year, though no mention of how it was going to be distributed.

i think we're in the beginning of a new revolution my friends... | Radiohead does it again. Revolutionary. Good for them.
They had said in an interview even if you have a very good contract a band MIGHT get 30% of record sales revenue. He attacked that as an old business model. |

It's impossible to control how much music is downloaded, so it's interesting how they're taking the initiative on it. I'm planning on giving them atleast a $5-er for the cd or maybe more if I like it. Also, since the money goes directly to them, they can sell it cheaper and still make money.
Kudos Radiohead. |

Most new bands end up owing their record company for their first album. They get a up-front "loan" to make their album and then any revenue from album sales goes to repaying that loan. They are then at the mercy of the record company as to whether or not they get pushed or not.
Even if a band does start making revenue from album sales, they are lucky to get pennies per CD sale.

anyway, it'll be interesting to see what radiohead has been up to for the last... FOUR years!
i didn't think hail to the thief was a great album, so i hope they haven't become complacent. (and thom yorke shows that dude from muse what's what! ) |

| | | | Radiohead could have signed with any major label but chose to release it on their own. They care more about exposer than money.
I consider Radiohead to be the best commercialy succesful band of the last 20 years.
ok computer, kida/amnesiac/ hail to the theif
if you havnt heard them you are really missing out, even if you dont like Thom Yorke's voice or the feeling of the music, they are really some of the most diverse and influencial musicans of the 20th century. I am not exagerating! |

The production has that claustrophobic feel of Thom's solo album (The Eraser) but I think it serves this music well.
I had hoped "Bangers and Mash" would be on the album, but it looks like it's only on the bonus disc.
My early favorites are Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, Recknoner and Bodysnatchers. And I like House of Cards a lot even though it seems to be the one that the majority of Radiohead fans hate. |
