New Solo Bass Tune

Sign in to disble this ad
So I recorded a new solo bass tune available at: http://www.myspace.com/christopherthomasmusic

I'm experimenting with a new tuning and a delay pedal. What does TalkBass think?

For some reason it reminds me of the Radiohead song "Treefingers". I dig it.

Thanks! I haven't ever heard Treefingers before since all I know about Radiohead is Creep, lol, but it was really spacey and cool.

Sounds great, love the chimey ringing sound of your bass. Sounds a lot like an Gibson RD.

This kind of bass playing is so refreshing and trancends the instrument used.

Hey dude, just been having a listen to your new demo and I'm really impressed!

It has a really positive calming energy to it, I bet its great fun to play!

Check out "John Butler" on youtube, he has an instrumental on there called ocean I think which has a similiar vibe to your piece....

Keep up the good work man!

Thanks for the kind words

I definitely love the feel of that John Butler song. I've really gotten into the instrumental acoustic stuff recently. That stuff is just so good

I really like it, Christopher. Congrats!

Hoe many recording tracks did you use? A single one?

I only used one track until the final 30 seconds where I used a second track that added a few harmonics and root changes. I'm going to rework the song too and phase that out to where it's one track in the final version. But as of right now I think it wraps it up fairly nice.

I'm not a fan of using multiple tracks anyway unless it's other instruments

I love your tune!
How are you plucking your strings?

Unlike a lot of people, to hit multiple harmonics or regular notes I just do a really quick rake across the strings as opposed to the "one finger per string" technique. It just kind of became a habit for me and you really can't tell the difference.

For harmonics, I also found that you get a much clearer tone when you pluck closer to the bridge. There's a sweet spot around that area.

Is that what you mean?
