New Staind Tracks - Not Again and Eyes Wide Open

Sign in to disble this ad
I know we have our resident Staind bassist on the forums now and again, and maybe he can drop some insight on there new upcoming release. But, I heard these songs the other day and WOW.

They really blew me away. Be a huge fan of Dysfunction and how "Heavy" that album was and at least for myself feeling like Aaron was getting bored or just fell into what made quick easy cookie cutter or maybe even more so to appease the label hoser's on the releases after that, I'm glad to hear him and the band throw down again.

Huge drums, Great riffs, and switching up the singing and screaming again. I loved it. Excited to hear the whole disc when it drops.

Anyone else have any thoughts on their new tunes?

If this were Facebook, I'd probably tag @Staindbass in this post. Did that work? No. I'll stay sub'd though.

He already told me He's using a Spector and one of his sealed Ampeg 218 cabs powered by a Crown power amp and a Blue Line SVT powering an SVT 210AV. Only heard Eyes Wide Open but that's one of the strongest tracks they've ever done.

Yeah I think you've got a good rep. Not like Nick Oliveri. Guess he's famous, too. I saw a thread about his new bass yesterday and oh man, was he flamed.

...I listed Scott Reeder's Kyuss-era as my influence. =X

I've been a Staind fan since I first heard Dysfunction. Johnny knows 'cause I tend to bug him on here from time to time! (sorry Johnny). I can honestly say I really like every album. I love the heavy, I love the lighter stuff. With that being said the new tunes I've heard so far are AWESOME!! Eyes Wide Open is my favorite, followed by The Bottom and Not Again. I'm REALLY looking forward to this album. I can't help but wonder what the drum situation will be. Are you guys looking for someone new or is Will the guy?

Would you guys agree that Staind is definitely not the first band to say their next album would be their heaviest, but the ONLY band that actually followed through with that promise?

Very well done Johnny!

I hadn't heard that they planned this album to be very heavy. If that's the case they would be the only band ever that followed through on that. Linkin Park said there newest album would be heavy again like their first album, then the proceeded to release IMO one of the worst album's of all time of any genre.

Kudos to Staind for staying true to their word! Great stuff.

Yea, I'm a big Linkin Park fan and I haven't spent a minute listening to their new stuff. I didn't like it at all.

It seems to go like this for big bands...

1. Release first album to huge fan acclaim
2. Release second album with more hits while tuning the sound down and becoming more radio friendly
3. Release a very radio friendly, light album to which you say "We wanted to experiment and grow as a band"
4. Realize no one liked your last album and promise to "go back to your roots" and "release heaviest **** yet" to which you TRY and record a few lame, not really heavy songs that your true fans still don't like.

Staind however, has released solid album after solid album and then STILL decided to release a heavy ass album. Awesome.

Uhhh...NO! Have you ever heard of a band called Pantera? They said that after Cowboys from Hell which they did with Vulgar Display of Power. They said the same thing after that album and did it with Far Beyond Driven.
That is only one band, and one example. So, I believe that statement could be thourghly torn apart.

This not a knock on Staind or anything...Mudshovel is why I bought my first 5 string years ago.

I hear you with Pantera BUT, They didn't go from heavy to plain old rock like a lot of bands that ride that plain do. More so "Nu-Metalish" bands like Staind, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Slipknot and such. These bands dropped amazing first albums, besides Korn anyway, took a couple for them, but then they got huge and went to what made money or whatever the reason.

I'm not part of their writing process so I can't really comment to that.

But with Pantera I think they don't fit into the comment. I perceived it the comment to more specific to bands like Staind and others that get huge airplay after a heavy first album then change. While Pantera's music is awesome Phil always sucked for me personally. And Pantera was never mainstream the way some other bands were.

Either way these new Staind songs are really awesome. I will even drop money on this one. Haven't been excited for something in a long time.

Again my opinion from what I see in my little world. Would be open to hear more of your opinion though. My band mates love Pantera and can probably give some more insight to the albums of which you mentioned.

This exactly, although i have to disagree with you about Phil. He's an animal and I love his vocals! A band like Pantera was always heavy. I'm talking about the bands that start off with a heavy album, then start writing lighter and lighter stuff or material that just doesn't have the edge like it originally did. I have to say though, I never understood people knocking Staind about getting light. Granted, Dysfunction was heavier but they were never THAT heavy. All the albums to me have pretty much had an edge to them. They definitely got more mainstream as they went along, but it was almost a natural progression. My other favorite band, the deftones, took the same path. They obviously aren't like they were on Adrenaline, but their latest album is still awesome and kicks ass, but shows a natural progression.

At any rate, has anyone heard the new Limp Bizkit stuff? I didn't even know it existed. I have to say, I thought it was pretty weak. Musically it had that bad-ass quality, but the vocals were almost unbearable. Korn too, what the hell happened to them? Everything they release now just sounds so bad vocally.

Phil is amazing vocalist and one of the most recognizable rock vox of all time, easily. He gets more range w/ Down than Pantera though.

Also, the new Staind single from the times I've heard it is pretty inspiring. I hope the rest of the record adds up. :rawk:

I must see this thread. Please link?

Oh and the new Staind stuff is AMAZING. Been a fan for a long time, and I'm happy to hear the aggression making a return.

Mike Mushok headbanging to the slower Staind ballads is hilarious tho.

since we're all Staind fans here i figure it can't hurt to plug my own music. It's in the vein of Staind, Deftones, Linkin Park so please let me know what you think. I wrote and recorded everything except drums and some vox...

A buddy of mine had a couple of the new staind songs on his ipod and played 'em for me the other night -- needless to say, I was pretty psyched and can't wait for the new album. In all honesty, I haven't been impressed with anything since 14 shades...that album (and the stuff after) was too soft compared to Dysfunction and BTS.
