I'd argue that the prelude and postlude are very important to the album. The fact that they are lighthearted, but dealing with the matter at hand makes the Dogs/Pigs/Sheep seem like they should be taken in a lighthearted fashion, like they're jokes, screw 'em. Also, they are very peaceful sounding, making the album take you on sort of a emotional roller coaster ride.
Plus... they're short... quit complainin'
I love Animals.

I love Animals. | Interesting analysis. That is my favorite Floyd album by a very large margin myself. One of my favorites of all time, actually, but I find those Pigs On The Wing songs to be disjointed musically in the context of the rest. |
