New Wooten-ish Solo Bass song

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey dudes

It's been a while since I tried to play some solo bass stuff but I finally got around to recording something - just me and my Sei going direct into my Mac/Logic.

Let me know what you think - it's kind of a Victor thing but not slapped but picked - it's still a work in progress and this was mainly improvised - so I know the structure needs tightening up - but I hope you dig it so far...

EDIT: sorry to repost the video link, I just added this to YT, but this is a new version - I used Logic to record the audio and it's come out pretty well - just in case the other vid link gets a lost below:

Happy Too video

The first version is here on a Quicktime stream:

Happy Too

Cheers guys

Mike

That sounded great man! I love that stuff. I don't play anything like that (solo bass or tapping) so I really enjoy listening to guys who've taken the time to develop that sort of style and play it well. Kudos man, keep it up.

Hmmm i went there and there was no way to listen to the track. The clef was unclickable if that was what I needed to start the song. Do I need a plugin?

Wooten-esque I suppose, but I hear a lot of Keller Williams in there. Good job, keep it up man.

hey man - it's Quicktime you need - download it here - there's a free version but the full version is worth getting... http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

Really glad you guys are digging this - and no it's not my warwick - I sold my Thumb bass (sorry Wick fans) - this is my new Sei bass (I did say in the first post ) - which is why I wanted to share this - I think it sounds wicked...

Cheers

Mike

It's a shame you sold the Warwick, it sounded amazing, especially with Schack preamp! I remember seeing your ad when you were selling it, I would have bought it myself if there was space in my collection for a Warwick!

I know man but as I'd owned it for 18 years I was kind of tired of the bass, plus it was sooooooo heavy it was actually giving my genuine back problems. For what it's worth I was able to play it a couple of times before it sold via The Gallery and it did sound wicked but it felt weird after getting used to my Sei, plus I have used the cash towards a new Sei Jazz bass which will be utterly wicked ETA September 2009...

That was nice.

It`s no possible to deny the Wootenish approach but it`s technically brilliant.

The bass sounds very pure, defined and modern (EMG like tone I should say).

BTW, I like your reverb. Since I`m slowly adding it to some short solos, would you tell me its settings ?

Man - I really appreciate your comments - I'm really pleased with the tone as it's so 'exposed' here there really is nowhere to hide - just me and the bass doing our thing

regarding the reverb I thought a screen shot of my settings would be more useful than some long-winded explanation - bearing in mmind I'm using Logic Pro - try this out:

Thanks again for listening - I need to record some more stuff now!

Cheers

Sounds great, man. I really like your ideas... great use of tension and release

My only crtisism is that at times I seemed to loose sense of the tempo... but like you said it's a work in progress

edit: The video seemed much tighter. GREAT TONE

Thanks guys - really appreciate the positive comments - I'm not mad keen on solo bass stuff, but I do exploring the posibilities of the bass - it's keeping it musical that's the key and actually the hardest part... I need to get writing some new tunes now - but thanks for the encouragement.

I'm also pleased the Sei bass sounds so good - it's a killer Bass

Mike
