Sign in to disble this ad
Hey,

Im a completely new to any type of recording, so any help is appreciated.

Heres my question:

If i wanted to record a bass onto my computer, would a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter plus Audacity work?

Or am i really missing everything about recording

Like i said, im new, so dont crucify me

~Thanks

If you have line in, yes. But don't expect miracle sounds with such an input.

Save money for an Apogee ONE.

I would say no, but it depends on what kind of quality you're looking for. If you want better sound quality in a wide price/quality range hit up the recording section of a music store such as guitar center. I bought an M-Audio rackmount there that came with a trial version of Ableton live, which is one of the best recording programs you can get. Later I bummed copies of the full version of Ableton and Sony Acid Pro off of my sound tech friend, and it's working really well for me without having to spend an obscene amount of money.

Cool

I have the Korg D3200($1300) Stand Alone Recording Board. It is very user friendly(CD burner) and does the job. You can use your computer (mac. pc) for file back-up but it has its own HD (80gig) and I have done some beginning tracks with it. I'm more comfortable with the Korg and I don't have to work out issues with the pc/mac. software. . I started with a Tascam DP-004 ($175) which was a good way for me to get my feet wet. I used it for my first bass, guitar, and vocal tracks. I run bass and guitar through a Digimax D8 and then into the Korg. Vocals are also done the same way. The results have been good. Yes as stated you can easily spend obscene amounts of money for recording equipment. Do your homework and don't be afraid to wait until you are sure of your purchase.

Really for around 120 Bucks you could get this:http://www.guitarcenter.com/Tascam-U...95-i1169093.gc and it works just fine. I used it a few years ago when i was a newbie and it did the trick just fine!
