Nico Assumpção was the baddest ass not only with electric but with double basses too. Amazingly enough he also played for João Bosco (always playing with the best...) , for over 10 years, using a 6 strings Fodera fretless. He died in 2001, I think, 42 years old, of aneurysm. It was a shock for us, especially for me who found out only 2 years afterwards...I was living abroad. I saw him playing many times in my city and what always kept me in awe was his smile, even when playing the hardest chops I've seen in my life. You can hear his double bass playing with Joe Henderson's "Double Rainbow", a double album, with a Brazilian band on one CD and an American's on the second ( Christian McBride on bass, plus Herbie Hancock) . Good stuff.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=glance&n=5174 Artur Maia comes from a royal family in Brazilian music. He is the nephew of Luizão Maia, the bassist who took part in over 1.000 recording sessions, especially Elis Regina, our greatest singer, to Toots Thieleman, George Benson and Wayne Shorter. Artur Maia played for many years for Djavan, another great songwriter (who had Abraham Laboriel on his first album), and has played now for Gilberto Gil, one of the top 3 songwriters here. He played in a very succesful jazz group called "Cama de Gato", that sold over 70.000 (!) copies in it's first homonymous album.

I know little of
Ney Conceição but he's the guy who filled in after Nico's death, playing for João Bosco. Researching on the web I found his website, but the English page is not working

but it has 10 solos to download in PDF for free!
