Is it just me, or does this song sound like Nick was listening to a lot of Thin Lizzy at the time?

I know what you mean, who knows? He's a huge pop fan and the timing is right.

BTW I love that song, and I remember seeing him and Rockpile perform on at least two occasions back in the day.

It just sounds very Phil Lynott to me-- the bass part, the vocal, lyrics... All very Johnny the Fox sounding.

Funny thing is Rockpile was strangely mediocre live, as they were all fairly accomplished musicians. maybe they were all drunk, apparently the Stiff tours were sodden.

I disagree!! Check out any number of live Rockpile shows available on the net, winterland, bottom line, etc. those guys were smoking! And they did tons of live radio simulcasts as well.

That's funny, I was thinking the same thing recently--especially the phrasing of the verses.

Here's a live version with Nick rockin' the mudbucker Tele.

We did "Little Sister" Rockpile style back in the 80's! Great version of the Elvis classic. Of course, that was back when I could sing.

If you listen to the rest of the songs on "Jesus of Cool" nick does take offs on the Jackson 5, Bowie, Bay City Rollers, Thin Lizzy was only one of his targets on that record...

And remember he had a record called "Bowi" in response to Bowie's "Low"

I need to dig out my copy of "Pure Pop for Now People" as they called it when it came out over here. Great songs by a great song writer but I never caught the Thin Lizzy conection. Hey but that may be due to my lack of familiarity beyond the Thin Lizzy radio hits.
