Nik Bärtsch's Ronin - Stoa

Just listened to this. What a treat.

Personnel is:
Nik Bärtsch (piano)
Sha (contrabass and bass clarinets)
Björn Meyer (bass)
Kaspar Rast (drums)
Andi Pupato (percussion)

Björn and Kaspar sound great together. They throw down some major grooves on this one. I must not leave out Sha who masterfully plays the contrabass and bass clarinets. He (or she) often doubles Bjorn's lines and I just love the way that sounds. During one section, it's almost as if Bjorn turned on a distortion pedal but it's just the breathy overtones of Sha's clarinet.

This is great stuff that every bassist should check out. An added bonus is that it's on ECM. Anyone care to share their opinions on this recording and/or the musicians?

P.S. I found a cool interview with Bjorn.
