Nine Inch Nails: Beside you in time.

I just got though watching Nine Inch Nails, Beside You in Time. I was impressed. I have been a fan since Pretty Hate Machine, but never got a chance to see them in concert and have only see maybe 2 videos.
Was great but a couple of things surprised me. The main thing was the lack of keyboards and dependence on Guitar and Bass and Drums. Just the Basics. I didn't expect Trent to be playing Guitar, I expected him behind the Keyboards.
It was dark, but from what I can tell the Bass player was using mostly Fender 4's, a couple of them, and Sadowsky 5'er, Vintage, couldn't tell if he had more than one. 24 songs and except for 2, "Terrible Lie" and "Head like a Hole" the keyboard player could have taken a break. Trent did play electric piano twice. Once for just a break in one song and all the way though "Hurt".
I thought it was great and really enjoyed watching it. I've bought a couple that were a waste of money, but this one is a keeper.
For those of you that think of Oklahoma as just a bunch of Rednecks, well around here there are a lot, I found out at the end, this was shot in Oklahoma City at the Ford Center. Not where I would have expected a Nine Inch Nails DVD to come out of.

Trent usually releases quality material, and his DVDs are no exception.

I've only seen NIN live once, which I thought was just ok. I don't really dig much of his material with the exception of The Fragile (which is magnificent), and I really dislike his new stripped down direction he's going in. It appears that when I saw them that's what they were going for, and it did lack alot of keys and effects - they seemed like just a basic rock band.

It was a little strange seeing 35 year olds dressing in latex and fishnet shirts at the show. Come on, people. The Crow came out in 1994 - can we stop dressing like that now?

It really is a total 180 as far as NIN goes. His new shows, and even his personal image, has really taken on a toned down, cleaner look. I had the pleasure to be at one of his latest stops here in Pensacola with Twiggy on bass/guitar. Just a really tight, and enjoyable show.

Even though the keys and such have been removed to an extent, the music doesn't lack for it. IMO.

+1. Well for the band, it always have been like this: Trent singing and sometimes playing guitar or keys, a bassist (who plays guitar and keys sometimes), an other guitarist and a keyboardist in charge of all sampling, effects, etc. (a biiig job lol)
But yes, the keyboards have taken less place since With Teeth. And the last tour had a focus on it.
But anyways... NIN live totally kicks ass since his debut. The show i went is the best i've seen in my life, IMO.
If you like Beside You In Time, get And All That Could Have Been. Another greeeeat show, that focused on The Fragile.
