Hey Fellow TB'ers,
I am proud to announce that my dual bass band, The HEAP has finally finished our CD, "Deluxe". I think it sounds fantastic! I am especially proud that there are NO guitars on the CD just basses, horns keyboards and percussion. Please take a minute to check it out. I would love to hear what you think. It is available here:

Please pick up a copy and tell a friend!
Thanks

Sounds great! The vocals kind of turned me off though...

The CD also includes all of the tracks as instrumentals as well.

Can somebody please explain to me why most bassists don't like guitar?

I have an equal love of both bass and guitar, and i play both.
A guitar is pretty much a bass with 2 more strings, tuned an octave up. And likewise, a bass is just a guitar with 2 less strings tuned an octave down.

You guys use "guitar" like its a curse word or something. Don't forget that a bass is technically a "bass guitar"

well

I have nothing against the guitar, in fact, I love them. I always thought that since this was a bass forum people often refer to guitars jokingly. Some of best friends are guitar players

It always irritates me when people bash guitarists, probably because they're just jealous, marginalised root noters! I don't play guitar, but I love playing alongside guitarists.

All the same, I don't think a guitar would help on that record...not sounding so great to me....

It isn't that the instuments are physically much different, it's that they are played very differently, sometimes by very different personality types. Any animosity you see is most likely the result of conflicting personalities.

...and I'm not sure you're accurate in saying "most bassists don't like guitar."

I'm not sure I understand how having two bass guitars means there are no guitars.

I don't know why there's so much hate for the instrument tuned an octave higher than the bass. It's like hating on the right hand of a piano player.

Meanwhile someone is playing guitar power chords and a few lines on a bass - so what is really the difference?

Look, there are always the girls who dig the bass players, and while you'll never score like the guitar players at least be glad you don't play keyboards.

Guitars

Perhaps you have a point. Maybe I could have worded the intial post differently. I have nothing against guitars or guitar players. I am just proud of the fact that we are doing something different. I am not claiming to be the first to play this way and I am sure I won't be the last. But this is a bass message board and I thought there might be some interest in this style of bass playing.

I like.
I personally thought the tunes a little too samey tho and too little variations in sound.
Maybe a guitar would have been a good idea...maybe not.( judging by the samples on the site
It does sound good though and I take my hat off to you!!

Really...you're not doing anything different at all. You're not the first band not to have a guitarist in the ranks.

Yes

Yes, really! Yes, I understand that we are not the first band to not have a guitarist and I never claimed to be but I personally feel that our stuff has a different sound.

I thought it was good but did not really sound different to me at all, I understand two bassists one an octave up is out of the norm for that genre though.

Kind of like Big Twist & The Mellow Fellows.

Does not matter how you make the music. It works.

The second bass could be a bit more telecaster Twangy to stand out a bit more to me.

I liked the CD.

Thanks, I really do appreciate ALL of the comments. Also, thanks for turning me onto Big Twist and the Mellow Fellows!
