Notable J-Bass with Flats recordings

Are there any? There is James Jamerson playing funk on a P. There are Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden playing rock/metal on a P.

What about a J?

John Paul Jones played almost exclusively on a Jazz with rounds with Led Zeppelin. And his second most often used was I think the Alembic. The only time I know for sure he used a P was on In My Time of Dying, and it was fretless.

Pretty much everything Joe Osborn ever recorded. Look up his discography and see if there's anything notable on it. :-)

Noel Redding used Rotosound Roundwounds on his Fender Jazz. When Noel got the gig with Hendrix he asked John Entwistle what strings he was using, Entwistle told him Rotosound Roundwounds so that is what Redding used.
I know John Paul Jones has said he used Rotosound Roundwounds on his Fender Jazz, but in an old Guitar Player Magazine from the 1970's he said he used Rotosound Flatwounds on his Jazz....sure does sound like flatwounds to me.
Jaco also used Rotosound Roundwounds on his Fender Jazz Basses.

Joe says he always recorded with just the neck pickup on his Fender Jazz Bass.

Unless it was really early Robbie Shakespear or Aston Barrett and then it was a Hofner violin bass- the same one, actually.

Gotta Third Family Man. Aston Barrett steadily used a Fender Jazz Bass from the "Catch A Fire" album up until Bob's passing. He did use a Yamaha BB-? (P pickup and J pickup in the bridge)when the Wailers were being endorsed during the Positive Vibration tour (I have the DVD). Familyman sings with his J and sounds incredibly deep.

I'm sort of disappointed in the J with flats. It sounds good in reggae but outside of that I don't think I liked it anywhere else. :x
