Adding to the randomness of this thread, one of the Oak Ridge Boys called my house once.

Hell, I loved it. I always wished the original version had real bass, and this O.R.B. version has two cool basses! I also always wished the original's vocals didn't have that whiny "indie rocker" strain to them, and here the O.R.B. give it a real voice. Now, TBH, the lead singer of the O.R.B. doesn't bring anything special to the table, and in fact I wish he had more of a gutsy, raw tone. But overall, I'd listen to this version over the original one any day.

+1. I never thought it was even one of the better White Stripes songs. And I really got sick of it when it became a soccer chant.

Interesting, but...
EeeYuch!

I don't care at all for the multivoice male bass harmony or whatever you call that, but I guess that's the Oak Ridge Boys trademark. Sure they've achieved, "making it their own," if that means making a great song into crap.

This really comes off as a pretty transparent marketing gimmick, you know, "Has-been C&W act revitalizes career by covering an edgy pop song."

It worked for Johnny Cash. (Hurt in case anybody missed it.) But that's because Cash meant it.

So they do it on piano, (just like Cash's Hurt, hmmm...) and it comes off sounding technically correct and sterile. And I hear some atmospheric synthy stuff in there too that is just gross.

Also, it's a ridiculously simple song which anybody can cover and find some way to "make it their own," even me!

I think it's cool that they are willing to stretch out and try new material instead of just relying on their old stuff. They sure sing a lot better than Jack White too!

FREAKIN AWESOME! This hits all the wickets
1: Real singing
2: Really Weird
3(and best of all): No freakin' white stripes to ruin the song!

Whoa! Boy I sure hate it. And I'm a big "any kind of covers fan". Couldn't stand more than a minute of this.

A 5 string bass and a PRS guitar? That ain't country! LOL......

I promptly sent this to my country band for "consideration" with a smiley face. ;-)
