Odd Recommendation Thread--Re: Metallica

Okay. So watching "Some Kind of Monster" and "A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica", I've come to the realization that I really kinda like some of the music of the "Bob Rock Era" (Metallica/Load/Re-Load--still not liking St Anger), even though I wish it wasn't Metallica playing it. Does this make sense?

I like the heaviness, but still melodic somewhat-but still not afraid of heaviness and/or intensity...

Any other bands sound like this?

Megadeth came from the same era of of Thrash metal as Metallica if that's what you're looking for... Or if you're looking for heavy and melodic music, check out Children of Bodom or X Japan.

My dad had a saying about that, "I think Nothing Else Matters is awesome, it just shouldn't have come from Metallica."

Check out later Corrosion of Conformity, especially "America's Pure Volume Dealer."

Also a lot of Iced Earth is heavy, melodic, but not to the point where heavy overbears melody.
