Can't find a specific thread on these guys and I think they deserve one! Their 'Conference of the Birds' album made me pick the bass back up again after 15 years fallow.
Thought it would be of interest as they are just bass+vox & drums and create an immense sound. I was fortunate to see them play at the UK's Supersonic 07 festival in July, they were easily the best thing, even outshone Mogwai. Damn they were heavy, probably the most intense sound I've heard live.
New album out on 2nd Oct, Pilgrimage, produced by Steve Albini.

I don't think I have anything to add. All I know is I NEED a Ric and some Greenification.

| | | Sorry to jump in so late but I was just recently turned on to these guys. A bass playing buddy of mine kept telling me to check them out. I was in my local record store the other day when I stumbled across an impressive, hefty-looking slab of vinyl called Pilgrimage. The credits on the back sealed the deal as it was recorded by Steve Albini. Here's what I figured:
Bass and Drums+Vinyl+Steve Albini = How the hell could I possibly go wrong??
...and I was right! |

| | | Yep. I am officially psyched to check out their other recordings now. Sleep too. Ya know, I really love the idea. Just bass/vocals and drums delivered with sheer power and intensity. Love that pictue too in the original post. Looks like Al Cisneros is plugged into two pedals. Wonder if one of those is a distortion of some kind... . Also, the old Sabbath poster in the back is not going unnoticed . It would be phenomenal if these guys can sell enough CD's and tickets to their shows to support their lifestyles without them having to work menial jobs. To me, what they are doing is truly inspirational. As long as they keep producing music of this quality, I will keep supporting them. Can't wait to check 'em out live ! |

| | | | I like how they get better and better with each record. From Sleep without a guitar to something meditative on the last record(esp. first and last song). However, I dont really like how the songs end, the sound a little unfinished to my ears. |

So I cut my losses by cranking their discography. |

I have to check this band out! | The other night when I turned you onto Sleep, I told you to check out OM because Al is in it. I also had you check out High On Fire as well, which is Sleep derived.
I really really really want to take in OM live, I can only imagine after seeing many similar bands from the genre live that it's very intense.
Peace
-Benny
