Omar's (mars volta) solo album

Sign in to disble this ad
Just starting up the second side, and I enjoyed it. Vaguely similar to the mars volta, but a little more laid back, less busy, and a bit more groove to it. At least semi regular time signatures. I'm not entirely sure what it would be classified as, but it was an easier listen with less random disonance; its still quite clearly omar though, so it didn't entirely get away from that.

If you enjoy the mars volta, its worth trying out. I guess I'd describe it as more relaxed, with a little more direction. If you don't like tmv, its likely not going to really be your thing either.

I'll try to be a little less vague in a day or two when I've gone through it again if anyone wants a better description.

Anyone else listened to it? Thoughts?

edit: Just going through the second side, and the guitar does ramble a fair bit... bass is getting kind of repetative, but I'm still liking it overall.

To be honest I'm not sure what its called. Pastel yellow cover with some wierd line drawings. Just says omar rodriguez (sp) on the cover. Song titles aren't in english so I'm pretty much not going to be able to help much... I'll drop the record label after work to give somehwere to look for it.

Turns out that its old news being from 2005. I guess these things take a while to trickle up into the frozen north. Heres a link to a pic/info... Same group as his soundtrack, but not the soundtrack.

Not that I recall. I was playing a couple other new albums so I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure she was instrumental.

Some of the guys from TMV play in another band called "De Facto" which is kinda like dub reggae, really good stuff. Omar on bass, Cedric rockin' the kit, and Ikey on keys. Here's a clip I found on Youtube:
