Whenever there is a question about any of my posts, refer to the name.

And it's not my fault he's got some crazy french name or whatever. I actually use to think it was prononced like mustaine, (fruh stain). Thank god for the song "Purple Stain".

I think it is a great album. It's very well produced and some great tunes. I have to say that I was very excited to hear that John was rejoining the band, but my excitement was changed to dissappointment when I first heard Californication. Since his downfall and recovery over heroine, his playing lacks the intensity and technique he once displayed on the earlier albums. The guy played his butt off on MM and BSSM, but now he seems like he's fumbling around. I still enjoy the newer albums, but they've lost the intensity and energy they used to have.

It's one of my favourite RHCP albums. I always found Frusciante's playing to be somewhat one-dimensional, and it shows in RHCP's songs. Navarro was able to take them in a direction that Frusciante would not have gone. It was kind of like a side project...

That said, I stopped listening to RHCP after "Californication"... sounded to me like a bunch of songs that were trying to sound like "Under the Bridge".

It's the first time the Chili Peppers had any direction to their sound... and for that it rocks

what??? They had direction from the very first record! No one was doing what they were doing at the time. I didnt think they were all over the place.

I like One Hot Minute, but agree that Navarro was not the right guy and the sound changed (heavier) as a result. I like Mother's Milk better material-wise, but One Hot Minute was enginerred and produced very well. My faves in order:
BSSM
Uplift Mofo
Mothers Milk
One Hot Minute & the first one

I like John Frusciante (Mother's Milk/Blood Sugar Sex Magik-era) better than Dave Navarro, but I did like One Hot Minute. I'd rank both MM and BSSM ahead of OHM, but I enjoyed OHM more than Californication and the few songs I've heard from By the Way.
