Hi, I've been around the forum since summer and I've goten up the guts to upload one of my recordings of a cover tune.

I'm 44, have been playing music since I was 12, and this last summer had the opportunity to get a bass again. I've since become totally hooked and have grown my collection from 1 to 4 since July.

I don't really have the opportunity to play with other musicians so I do a lot of practicing and playing with mp3's

I also have a small home studio and do some recording.

This is an example of my playing.

The main track is a midi file I found on the internet. I Import it to cubase, sdisolve it to get the sepearate parts, assign those parts virtual instruments and then play my bass along with it.

I did this one yesterday with my new SX P/J

Sing A Song by Earth wind & Fire (not a note for note bass line, just my interpretation)

For those that are interested the equipment and VST's used are below:

Bass - SX SPJ 62 into Sansamp BDDI into Presonus Firebox - Sweetened a little with "classic compressor" from kjaerhusaudio.com

Horns - Trumpet Section - Sax - Trombone from Native Instruments Kontakt 3

Rhodes - NI elektric Piano

Guitar - funk guitar from Kontakt3

Drums - Superior Drummer

Output channel has a little reverb from a hall setting on kjaerhusaudio.com;s classic reverb

Hope ya like it.

I'm surprised no one has replied. That was very good bass playing IMO. That SX sounds better than I expected. Any modification to it? Just curious.

I have a Peavey Millennium BXP that's nice, but in my opinion doesn't sound as good as your SX.

Well done.

thanks for the comments.

About the bass , nope no mods at all. Just replaced the strings with Carvin Nickle .045-.105 @ 3 sets for 30 bux lol.

It sounds pretty decent alone but the Sansamp BDDI is making it sound the way it does.

that bass sounds real good.

My friend bought an SX P-bass that sounded Killer, almost as good as a squier vintage modified.

anyways your song is really nice, it got me tapping my foot, mostly the bass did that but the whole tune is nice

What are your settings? Also, what are your settings on the bass?

Thanks!

Oh man, I have no idea, I pretty much start with the BDDI set like the manual shows for "SVT Style" and for the bass is full on for the P Pickup and maybe 1/2 on on the Jazz pup. tone knob is full off then back up about 1/3 turn or so , untill I start to hear a little high end definition.

Sorry I can't be more specific but I'm constantly twiddling.

there's also some compresion in cubase from the plugin I listed in the first post.

as far as writing any originals, lol I can't play anything but the bass. I'm self taught and play by ear. I don't know an A chord from a lamp chord.
