Only one Death

It's taken a while, but after several spins of the last three albums, I'm starting to get Death. Although the focus is on the guitars (duh), the bass playing on the albums is exquisite.

That said, it's more audible on say "Individual Thought Patterns" than "Human" etc.

My question. I'm going to get some death on vinyl this week, but can only get one album (no $$$! )...

So, if you could have only one album then:

(a) Which is the one over all to own?
(b) Which is the "best" in terms of audibility of bass and integration into whole compositions?

In other words, which one is the best and which is the best for a bass player if different?

Bass playing wise, you've already got the two best albums as metal bass does not get any better than Steve DiGiogio in my opinion. There's still some good playing on Leprosy and The Sound of Perseverance though. Out of the two, Leprosy would get my pick.

I'm assuming you've already got Individual Thought Patters and Human. If I'm wrong, than without a doubt Individual Thought Patterns. The crowning jewel of progressive death metal, IMO.

Yup. Steve DiGiorgio is epic. He's played in quite a few metal bands (as well as a jazz/fusion band Dark Hall), look him up on wikipedia for a pretty complete list if you want to hear more from him.

Bit late to the party on this, but Individual Thought Patterns and Symbolic are the obvious stand outs for the me on bass.(The Sound of Perseverance also has some stuff where the bass is really important in the composition). Scream Bloody Gore has a great bass tone in my opinion but it follows the rhythm guitar for the most part.
