Opeth - Blackwater Park

I love this album. Martin Mendez locks in unbelievably with the band on each track, but I especially love the song "Blackwater Park". Incredibly well produced, it's not that kind of metal song that immediately attacks you and makes you want to go deaf, like so many metal bands can sound. There's also a passage toward the end of the song that has a slap sound to it and it drives the song amazingly.

Opeth =

The only opeth album that I own, I need to get more because of it. I love how progressive it is, while still being deathy.

Amazes me everytime I listen to it: I've owned it for about a year and a half, still amazes me.

Good album! A lot of people prefer his predecessor, especially for all the noodling on Morningrise, but I definitely like Mendez' playing much better. Impeccable timing.

I allways liked the way it was mixed, great guitar tone, and it doesn't rip your ears off when it gets dirty.

IMHO, best album they have made. Best sounding one anyway.

I'm going to ho out on a limb here, but IMO Blackwater Park is one of the best metal albums ever. Epic, beautiful and brutal all at the same time. Amazing songwriting, fantastic playing and pristine production.

I have Blackwater Park, Damnation, Deliverance, and Ghost Reveries, and I have to say that I think BP is their best work of those albums. It's got such a great feel to it.

I'd say you're on a pretty solid limb there. In fact, to stretch that metaphor a little further, I would say you're sitting in a veritable treehouse there.

Abosolutely, kiddies!

I particularly LOVE and cannot get enough of the riffage on "Bleak." Especially the clean chorusy part- "Devious moments/in your eyes....."

My favorite Opeth album so far is My Arms, Your Hearse. There's a fair amount of black metal influence in the overall sound, and the record has a ghoulish love story concept. Each song flows into the next and makes it all so powerful. "April Ethereal" and "When" are a one-two punch....especially after you see the latter performed live.

I'm thoroughly into this album right now and is basically the only Death Metal I have showed an interest in. I love Opeth's use of weird chords, they really give their music that edge IMO.

My favourite is either Bleak or The Leper Affinity right now; can't decide.

I love Opeth!
