Opinions of this bassline

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I need your opinions because I am analysing if I leave the bass line like this
do you think it is ok??
It is a hard rock song so I´ve tried to keep it simple
It was recorded after some takes and it is not edited so I notice some imperfections...I´ve done my best..
Tell anything you want
Thanks

You can download it from this other thread
Listen to my recording...Dynamic variations

The purpose of the threads is different, that is why I made two different ones

My opinion -- I think the drum track is too overpowering, I can barely hear you play (of course, it could be because I'm on my laptop). Also, what I could hear seemed like it didn't fit with the tempo and rhythm of the drum track; while the drums are fast and upbeat, the bass lines that I did hear seemed to be slower and more drawn out, like it was meant for a slower, more relaxed song. Granted, the speakers on my laptop aren't the greatest, so I may listen to it again when I get home and can play it on a better sound system.

i think it fits the song, if you play more notes it wont be hard rock, it would sound like hard rockabilly or something... i think what you are playing is just right for the genre and the drums.

im listening thru my headphones and the drums arent overpowering

I now realize that the chorus that is the part where I have played with longer notes needs a straight foward motion, so I will play striaght 8ths all of it...Moreover I have realized the drums are not quantizesed so it rush a bit at the choruses...
Do you think the same??

Overall, I think it sounds pretty tight. A minor detail is maybe your attack could be a bit more defined at the beginning and end of your phrases in the verses, but not a big deal at all. Good job.

A hard rock song needs a foundation along with a melody. Its really hard to judge how "good" a bassline is when its only the bass and drums. Because of the interplay between the drums and the guitar. It sounds cool, but would even be more interesting once it has a guitar track over. As a start for chord changes and stuff it sounds good.

Ok, I was able to go back and listen to it again on a better system (laptop piped through my surround sound). I think overall it's pretty good, but still think the the drums are mixed too high, I still have a hard time hearing you clearly. The bass does sound a bit muddy, but that could be intentional on your part though. I think if you dial back the drum track a bit and crispen/brighten up the bass, it'll be more solid. Again, this is just my opinion...I am by no means an expert on these matters...lol.
