O.K.,fellas,opinion time.

In YOUR opinion:

What's the most poorly, unevenly mixed album that your ears have had the displeasure of listening to???

My vote:METALLICA-And Justice For All......

IMHO,absolutely the most horrid-sounding mix.EVER.Great songs,though.

In your opinion:

What's the BEST sounding album your ears have ever heard???

My Vote:QUEENSRYCHE-Empire

In my mind, the most beautiful, lush recording ever laid to tape. You can just about hear their pulse.

Is it true???I don't know,you tell me....

I had heard that Queensryche drummer,Scott Rockenfield played ALL CUTS from the Empire CD,IN ONE(!!)(1!!) TAKE.
An amazing accomplishment,IMO.

Yeah, Justice is definitely pretty dry - virtually no bass either which was pretty much a slap in the face to not only Jason but all of us... I remember hearing some of those songs live for the first time and they were totally different with proper bass (better!)

I agree on Empire too - very well done album!

I have a tune, not an album.

“Bridge Over Troubled Water” has a very interesting history. It has three verses: the first two recorded in NYC and the third in LA. Joe Osborn’s entrance is among my very very favorites. The Wrecking Crew did their usual masterful job. All was well. Then… the circus moved to LA for the big final verse. To my ears, it sound like the engineer dialed the reverb to “10” and stepped out to have a smoke.

I don’t get it.

It's pretty hard to top AJFA... in the bad sound stakes. 'Earth AD' by the Misfits has a pretty horrific sound, but you get the feeling the album took as long to record as it's running time (a little over 15 minutes), and it doesn't really detract from the overall experience.

My vote for overwhelming sonic purity has to go to 'Who's Next'. Sounds like they are playing in the room.
